“A Brief History of the National Museum of Cambodia. The National Museum of Cambodia is located just north of the Royal Palace and west of Preah Meru Square. In 1917, ground was broken and the foundation stone placed for its construction work began on the building. In 1920, the Museum is completed and was officially inaugurated along with the collection and name Albersa Raab. The inauguration was held in the presence of the His Majesty King Sisovath and François-Marius Baudouin, then French Resident- at-Large of Cambodia.

In 1951, the museum was renamed the National Museum of Cambodia and remained under the management of successive conservatives French. In 1966, the museum ‘s management was handover to the first Cambodian Director, Chéa Thai Seng. Since then, the museum has been directed by nine directors, including a woman.

Mr. Chhay Visoth (original was Kon Bireak) is the current director of the museum. Through various exhibits and descriptions in this audio, you will be able to know further about Khmer history, their religious beliefs, the evolution of their sculpture and architecture and the splendor of culture and civilization, from prehistory time to the present day.
