“This painting was made on cloth in early 1900. It narrated the story of Ravana death and the Sita being rescued to be reunited with Rama. The reading of this paintings, proceed from the bottom to the top.

The bottom section, here, Rama became doubtful about Sita faithfulness after she had spent 12 years living in the Lanka kingdom of Ravana. In order to tester faithfulness, Rama made his wife walk on fire. Sita submitted to her husband wish and started walking. As she began making her way, suddenly, lotus flowers starting to emerge from under the fire to proffer feet up and raise her above the flames. Rama was convinced of her faithfulness and took her back to be his wife.

The middle section, the drawing here, descript how Rama decided to appoint Pipeka to succeed her brother Ravana as King to rule the Lanka kingdom after his brother death. He also arranged the marriage of Pipeka with Montokiri and Akinaga.

The top section, this drawing descripts how Pipeka organize the building of the Meru for the funeral of his brother Ravana.

Paintings of the Ramayana story 6323

These drawings narrated the story about Angtoi, and Chumpupen, two commanders of monkey warrior, who on a mission to look for Sita, whom Ravana had stolen from Rama. To read these paintings, proceed from bottom to top.

Bottom section, in this section, Hanuman asks Sovann Mealea for directions to the Lanka kingdom. Sovann Mealea is a deva who Shiva exiled as punishment to live on an island in the middle of the ocean. In the absent of the bridge, Hanuman magically transformed himself to become larger and used his tail as a bridge for his troops to cross to the island.

Middle section, the monkey commanders met with an ascetic who sent them to meet Zambali, the featherless bird. Zambali made the three monkey commanders shout in jubilation three times, so that its wings could grow back feathers to fly them to the Lanka kingdom. On the way, the monkeys encountered a Yaksa in the middle of the ocean. They engaged in a battle, during which they managed to kill the Yaksa.

Top section, the monkey warriors transformed with themselves into small white monkeys to ask the ascetic Yobut about whereabouts of Sita. The ascetic told them Sita was at the Ashura garden. The monkeys sneak up to see Sita trying to protect herself from advances of Ravana.

Paintings of the Ramayana story 6324

These paintings describe how Vayarawana, a cousin to Ravana, stole Rama and took him to the Badal kingdom, beneath the earth. The reading commences from the bottom to the top.

Bottom Section, one night, Vayarawana inflated a glass blowgun to create a morning star as a false sleep. The monkey warriors, who were guarding Rama, mistook the false star as the dawn approaching and decided to go to sleep. Vayarawana took the chance to sedate all the monkeys, including their commanders and Hanuman. And then took Rama to the Badal kingdom.

Middle section, Rama is locked in the cage under guard of Yaksa warriors.
Top section, when Lakshmana woke up and did not find his brother, he called upon Pipeka, the astrologer to make a prediction and learned that Vayarawana had taken Rama to the Badal kingdom.

He ordered Hanuman commanders to go and liberate his brother. The monkeys broke the lotus flowers and squeeze themselves to the hold of the lotus steps to go the Badal kingdom. There, they engaged in the battle where they killed the four Yaksa guards to free Rama.
