This ancient work is a sandstone Buddha image. It was discovered in Thmey village, Angpopel community, Kongpisei district, Kampong Speu province. It entered the collection of the National Museum of Cambodia in 1962. Experts who have studied the characteristics of this statue conclude it is in the Phnom Da style of the 7th century pre- Angkorian period. Buddha sits cross-legged on a lotus-flower platform, which shows the influence of the Gupta style, similar to other artworks from Angkor Ba Ray and Phnom Da. Features showing this influence includes the oval facial shape and the almond-shaped eyes, which are closed and have small dots around the edges. The body is sculpted in a naturalistic style, the stomach and the legs are exposed. The right shoulder is also exposed, whereas the left is hidden under the garment that covers the arm to the left wrist. The rope is very thin, which is another characteristic of the Gupta style, making the chest clearly visible.
