“This Lokesvara is made of cast metal. It is originated from Kampong Loung Pagoda, Angkor Borei District, Takeo Province. The abbot donated this object to the National Museum in 1945. Researchers have determined that it was created in the 7th century pre-Angkorian era.
The statue is the Bodhisattva of Compassion. He has attained enlightenment but decided to delay his journey to nirvana in order to work for the salvation of the human world. This is recognized to be Bodhisattva thanks to the name Amitabha on the chignon. This work confirms the presence of Mahayana Buddhism in Cambodia in the 7th century. This is the only set that has many form of bodhisattva.
The hair and sampót style, resemble the arts of Champa, which is present-day central Vietnam. His left hand holds an item that appears to be a lotus.”
